SUMMARY:Alaska TTAP/LTAP–Gravel Roads: Construction and Maintenance (Fairbanks\, AK)
DESCRIPTION:The class will be taught by Matthew Ulberg\, Director of the Montana LTAP and Billy Connor\, Director of the Alaska TTAP. The class will cover the following topics across the 2-day class: \nDesign and Construction Topics \n\nBuilding on Permafrost\nDrainage concepts\nTypical cross section elements\nCoordination of horizontal and vertical alignment\nSight distance basics at Intersections and along the alignment\nSigning for conditions or geometry that may violate driver expectations\nMaterials and other specifications\nUse of Chlorides and other stabilizing materials\n\nMaintenance concepts: \n\nProper use of the motor grader\nCross slope\nDitch maintenance\nShoulder maintenance\nSpecifications: Aggregates for gravelroad surfacing\nReading the road: Understanding what your gravelroad is telling you\nEffective compaction\nWinter maintenance\nDust management\nMaintenance on permafrost\n\nPhotographs and videos will be used to illustrate many key elements of the class.  Discussion and participation are highly encouraged. Participants are welcome to contribute photos to the discussions. \nRegistration Instructions \nPlease register for the course in the LearningStream system operated by the Alaska LTAP. If you have not used the system previously\, you will need to create an account. Seats in the class are allocated based on the organization you are affiliated with\, please select the correct organization type.
