SUMMARY:WTTAP: Managing Roadway Drainage Systems (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Course Summary: \nThis 2.5-hour virtual training teaches participants to manage drainage systems effectively and efficiently. Drainage systems are a key asset to maintain. Drainage maintenance is critical for extending the life of pavements\, as drainage systems control water flow along maintainable pathways. Routine inspection identifies maintenance needs and lessens the potential for flooding. This includes inspections of shoulders\, ditches\, pipes\, and culverts. \nLearning Objectives: \nBy the end of the session\, participants will be able to: \n\nList types of drainage assets to be inspected.\nIdentify information to be collected during an inspection.\nDetermine if the condition requires a critical\, major\, or routine maintenance response.\nSelect an appropriate treatment\, given the type of drainage asset and its current condition.\n\nThis course follows the guidelines and structure of the Federal Highway Administration’s Maintenance of Drainage Features for Safety. \nPrerequisites: \nNone. \nTarget Audience: \nAnyone involved in the maintenance of drainage systems or who is responsible for identifying and scheduling drainage maintenance work.

SUMMARY:WTTAP Pavement Marking and Installation (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Please note: this is a two-day virtual training on June 2 and June 3 (8:00–11:00am PT both days). To receive your certification of completion\, you must attend both days. \nCourse Summary: \nThis interactive 6-hour training explores the standard types and uses of pavement markings. It teaches marking installation preparation\, marking application and inspection. This training also discusses the value of a pavement marking management system and explores new and upcoming innovations in materials and equipment. \nParticipants will have opportunities to access pavement marking resources—such as the MUTCD and a variety of local\, state\, and FHWA documents—and learn to use those resources to answer questions and make decisions that mirror on-the-job tasks. Participants will gain valuable tips from across the country that local agencies may use for installing and inspecting pavement markings\, dig into the Nevada specifications\, plans\, and field inspection guides. \n*Pavement Marking Installation and Maintenance is a required course of the Road Scholar Program. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nExplain the purpose of different types of pavement markings.\nSelect the right pavement marking materials.\nDescribe appropriate pavement marking preparation\, application\, and inspection procedures.\n\nIntended Audience: \nAnyone involved with marking pavements\, public works personnel\, or personnel with direct responsibility for planning\, painting\, installation\, or implementation of pavement markings. \nPrerequisites: \nNone. \nInstructor: \nTed Green\, P.E. (NJ\, NY\, PA) has over 30 years of experience as a civil engineer providing technical training as part of the LTAP community for 15 years on various roadway related subjects across the country. With a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from North Dakota State University\, and is a licensed Professional Engineer in New Jersey\, New York\, and Pennsylvania. Ted is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) holding leadership positions at the local level\, past Region 1 Governor in New York and New Jersey\, and has served as the past chair of national committees.

SUMMARY:WTTAP Barrier Basics (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Course Summary: \nThis 2.5-hour virtual training explores the basics of longitudinal roadside barriers. Discussion will focus on why and when barriers are needed on the roadway\, review the types and characteristics of barriers\, and find out where to locate guidance for placing and installing barriers. Finally\, there will be a review of maintenance requirements for roadside barriers and discover the important role maintenance plays in keeping the barriers performing as they should. \nParticipants will have a chance to use resources\, such as the AASHTO Roadside Design Guide as well as Nevada-specific design guides and specifications\, to answer questions and make decisions about real-world scenarios you might encounter when placing barriers. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nIdentify several standards for barriers selection and placement.\nIdentify warrants for the use of barriers.\nCompare the benefits and challenges of different types of barriers and end treatments.\nExplain three criteria for barrier placement.\nList basic elements of barrier inspection.\nGiven scenarios and the NCHRP 656 criteria\, rank the priority for repairing damaged barriers.\n\nIntended Audience \nThis course was designed for State\, regional\, county\, city and tribal personnel who manage\, inspect\, maintain\, and repair longitudinal roadside barriers. \nPrerequisites: \nNone.
