SUMMARY:National Center for Rural Road Safety: Transit as a Safety Strategy
DESCRIPTION:The National Center for Rural Road Safety and the NLTAPA Safety Work Group are co-hosting this FREE\, 1.5-hour webinar. \nThis webinar will be held Thursday\, August 21\, 2025 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am Pacific Time. \nOn your road to zero\, have you considered public transit as a strategy? If not\, then this is the webinar for you! Public transit is considered one of the safest ways to travel\, being ten times safer per mile than a car. Additionally\, it decreases congestion\, reduces the number of vehicles on the road\, provides mobility for those who cannot or choose not to drive\, and is a way to connect multiple modes of travel. In this webinar\, we will examine a case study from Colorado and hear about how their state and regional systems work together to keep communities and tourists alike moving safely. \nFor more details and to register for the webinar\, please click on the button below. Instructions on accessing the webinar will be sent after your registration is confirmed.

SUMMARY:Road Safety Champion Program – Module 6: Reading the Road
DESCRIPTION:The overall Road Safety Champion Program provides a high-level overview of road safety in the United States through seven modules. \nModule 6: \nThis 2.5-hour training will teach participants how to “read the road” as well as the importance of doing so in daily activities. It will use real world examples on different roadway components to demonstrate how participants may be able to uncover potential safety issues during their routine activities.  It will also discuss how the road safety audit process can be used to “read the road” in a more formal approach. The training will also discuss the consequences daily activities of workers may have on safety. \nLearning Objectives: \nAfter attending training\, you will be able to: \n\nDefine what is meant by “reading the road.”\nIdentify potential safety issues or identify any indications which suggest road users may have challenges traveling or navigating a roadway.\nIdentify “reading the road” steps in the Road Safety Audit (RSA) process.\nDemonstrate the steps of an RSA.
