SUMMARY:Utah LTAP: 5 Dysfunctions of a Team
DESCRIPTION:Supervisors are critical to an effective risk management program.  In addition to recognizing and controlling loss sources for the employer\, supervisors must know how to take appropriate actions in order to reduce the employers liability.  They are also required to work with a wide variety of individuals\, both co-workers and others.  And they need to know how to get results. That means making employees be the best they can be and providing good customer service to citizens\, even when they cannot accommodate the citizens request. \nThese courses are communications\, motivational and employee interaction courses.  Basic skills include coaching\, assertiveness\, and verbal influence (which means redirecting behavior using words) and communication with different genders\, generations\, and personality styles.  Discussions include how masterful communications can turn “confrontations”\, such as disciplinary scenarios and/or dealing with an irate citizen or customer\, into success stories. \nPlease email jackie.sanders@usu.edu with a physical mailing address so we can send the book needed for this class. \nTeacher: Randy Wahlen – UTAH LTAP \nTaylorsville USU Campus – 920 W Levoy Drive – Taylorsville \n8:30 am – 12:30 pm \nRoom 156

SUMMARY:NAPA Part 02: Milling: Setting the Stage for Pavement Performance
DESCRIPTION:Date: Dec 16\, 2026\nTime: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. PST.\n\n\n\nDescription:\nEvery great pavement starts with the surface underneath it. Milling does far more than remove old asphalt: it restores grade and drainage\, creates the texture the next layer needs to bond\, and sets the stage for tack\, paving\, and compaction. When milling goes wrong\, even the best paving crew can’t fully recover. Join Tom Chastain\, Milling Product Manager at Wirtgen America\, for a foundational look at why milling matters. You’ll learn how depth selection\, drum condition\, texture\, and cleanliness shape pavement performance\, and you’ll leave with a practical checklist for evaluating a milled surface before the tack truck arrives. Attendees will be able to: – Explain how milling quality affects bonding\, smoothness\, density\, and long-term pavement performance – Describe how milling decisions influence construction efficiency\, rework risk\, and overall project cost – Evaluate milled surfaces for ride quality\, texture\, and cleanliness prior to tack application – Recognize milling practices that reduce waste\, preserve pavement value\, and support sustainable outcomes.\n\n\nRegister: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_-S08Aw_HQzmsQgNgG88YnA#/registration

SUMMARY:WTTAP: Road Champion Safety Program - Module 4 (Overview of the MUTCD)
DESCRIPTION:Date/Time: January 19\, 2027 (9:00-11:00am PT) \nLocation: Teams \nCost: FREE *preregistration is required \nThe overall Road Safety Champion Program provides a high-level overview of road safety in the United States through seven modules. \nThe goal of this two-hour virtual training\, Module 4–Overview of the MUTCD is to provide an introduction and overview of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). The MUTCD defines the standards by which traffic signs\, road surface markings\, and signals are designed\, installed\, and used on all public streets\, highways\, bikeways\, and private roads open to public traffic. This module will help participants become aware of the need for uniformity of traffic control devices\, its legal requirements\, and related liability. Emphasis will be given to an understanding of the MUTCD\, Traffic Control Devices\, and Temporary Traffic Control. The overall goal of this training is to provide participants with an overview of the manual and how to use it. \nLearning Objectives: \nAfter attending training\, you will be able to: \n\nUnderstand the purpose and the organization of the MUTCD\nUnderstand the purpose of Traffic Control Devices (TCDs) and identify their five principles\nDescribe the fundamental principles of Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) and list the four components of the TTC zones\n\n*Road Safety Champion Module 4 is an elective course of the Road Scholar Program. \nPrerequisites: \nNone. \nInstructor: \nCarrie Brown\, MSML has 15 years of experience in public health and human services. She holds a BA in Psychology and Anthropology from the University of Nevada\, Las Vegas\, and a Master of Science in Management and Leadership from Western Governor’s University. Carrie has served communities as a Director of Human Services\, Tribal Health and Human Services Director\, Safety Circuit Rider\, and currently\, as the Director of the Nevada LTAP under Applied Pavement Technology. Her expertise is in training delivery with a focus on cultural sensitivity. Her mission is to empower Nevada agencies to support and strengthen their communities through transportation countermeasures and safety initiatives. \nClick here to download the training flier.

SUMMARY:NAPA Part 03 - Tack Coats: Fundamentals for Bonding Pavement Layers
DESCRIPTION:Date: Jan 20\, 2027\nTime: 11:00am – 12:30pm PST\n\n\n\nDescription:\nTack coat may be the smallest line item on the job\, but it is critical to the pavement’s structure. Without a good bond\, layers act alone\, stresses concentrate\, and the surface fails years ahead of schedule. Join Nathan Moore\, P.E.\, Assistant Director for Test Track Research at the National Center for Asphalt Technology\, for a foundational look at how tack turns individual lifts into a single pavement. You’ll learn how surface condition and texture drive material selection and application rate\, what break and set behavior means in the field\, and how distributor setup\, calibration\, and coordination with paving protect the bond needed between pavement layers. Attendees will be able to: – Explain the role of tack coat in creating bond between pavement layers and supporting long-term performance – Describe how surface condition\, cleanliness\, and texture influence tack coat effectiveness – Identify common tack coat materials and how selection affects break\, set\, and tracking behavior – Evaluate application practices\, including distributor setup\, calibration\, and application rate\n\n\nRegister: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_bgDMPEssQuO5ZCp-wGBYGg#/registration
