WTTAP Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification Course

Course Description: 

This nationally standardized curriculum provides in-depth training on the proper use of car seats, booster seats, seat belts and vehicle safety systems. This is a fee-based training. Successful completion results in national certification as a Child Passenger Safety Technician for two years.

You must be at least 18 years old at the time the course starts. The standardized child passenger safety technician (CPST) certification course is usually 3-4 days long and combines classroom instruction, hands-on work with car seats and vehicles, and a community safety seat checkup. Attendance is required for the entire course.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Provide basic technical knowledge about car seats, booster seats, and seat belt systems.
  • Create opportunities to develop and practice effective communication skills to educate caregivers.
  • By understanding the correct use of car seats, booster seats, and seat belts, CPS Technicians provide caregivers important information and resources on the safe transportation of children.

Audience:

This course was designed for State, regional, county, city and tribal personnel who work with families, child protective service partners, transportation safety professionals, EMS personnel, law enforcement, or other departments of public safety. Participants should be able to lift 50lbs and be able to bend at the waist.
