Barrier Basics

This 2.5-hour virtual training explores the basics of longitudinal roadside barriers. The course discusses why and when roadway barriers are needed, review the types and characteristics of barriers, and identify where to locate guidance for placing and installing barriers. Additionally, participants will review maintenance requirements for roadside barriers and discover the important role maintenance plays in keeping the barriers performing as they should.

Participants will use resources, such as the AASHTO Roadside Design Guide as well as Nevada-specific design guides and specifications, to answer questions and make decisions about real-world scenarios you might encounter when placing barriers.

Pavement Marking Installation and Maintenance

This interactive 6-hour training explores the standard types and uses of pavement markings. It teaches marking installation preparation, marking application and inspection. This training also discusses the value of a pavement marking management system and explores new and upcoming innovations in materials and equipment.

Participants will have opportunities to access pavement marking resources—such as the MUTCD and a variety of local, state, and FHWA documents—and learn to use those resources to answer questions and make decisions that mirror on-the-job tasks. Participants will gain valuable tips from across the country that local agencies may use for installing and inspecting pavement markings, dig into the Nevada specifications, plans, and field inspection guides.

Sign Maintenance Management

This 2.5-hour workshop explores the rationale for using various kinds of signs and sign supports and shares best practices for sign management systems.

This training follows the guidelines and structure of FHWA Maintenance of Signs and Sign Supports: A Guide for Local Highway and Street Maintenance Personnel.

The goal of this guide is to help agencies maintain their signs to meet the needs of the road user and promote a safe and efficient driving environment.
